Construction of a footbridge between Kazimierz and Ludwinów

A new footbridge has connected the banks of the Vistula between Kazimierz and Ludwinów. It is still too early to assess the level of the architectural design, but the abutment located on the boulevard and reducing its width is already drawing attention. The investment will revitalise Ludwinów, just as the Bernatka footbridge revitalised Podgórze. Let’s hope it will provide the impulse to tidy up the architectural mess and haphazard surroundings of the former Forum Hotel

The project is being built in the area of the historic crossing towards Skawina. Hence, the Skawińska street in Kazimierz. In connection with this construction project, it is worth touching upon the issue of walking routes along the Wilga river, which has its estuary here. The pedestrian and bicycle traffic coming here from the Kazimierz side could naturally move along the Wilga river.

There has been a lot of talk about the architectural design of this footbridge, due to a possible conflict with UNESCO landscape requirements. Let’s wait for the end of construction so that we can judge how this architecture will look. On the other hand, the narrowing of the Vistula boulevards through the footbridge abutment on the Kazimierz side certainly deserves attention. It is a pity that this has not been avoided. What also draws attention to this investment is the lack of comprehensive, aesthetic development of the Vistula boulevards. A lot of activity can be seen, but this activity lacks a unified aesthetic architectural design, and the place undoubtedly deserves it.
